Depression is a deep sadness leads to lose the desire

Article of Depression EDepression is a state of sadness that leads a person to lose the desire for everything, and depression is considered one of the fiercest spiritual wars that a person may be exposed to.
Types of depression:
There are four types of depression: Normal depression, pathological depression, harmful depression, and Holy depression.

1- Normal depression:
It is a natural reaction to some event or trauma, such as death events. In Genesis chapter 37, we notice Jacob’s grief for his son Joseph when they brought him his clothes stained with blood, and told him that a beast had devoured him, as well as the grief of Mary and Martha for their brother Lazarus when he died.
Sometimes the reason is spiritual, like when someone committs a sin, and starts feeling that he has lost the living in the presence of the LORD God, Who considred him as a son, so he may grieve and be depressed because of the sin he committed, and an example of this is David’s tears in Psalm 42:3 where he said because of the sins he committed: “My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?”
Normal depression is usually temporary, that is, it fades with the passage of time after the accident and the shock to which the person was exposed.
2- Pathological depression:
Normal depression sometimes turns into a pathological depression, when accompanied by the loss of hope, because the one who has normal depression, as long as he is on earth, has hope, aspiration and faith, and when he loses hope, then his natural depression will turn into a pathological depression.
Pathological depression is a melancholic thought that dominates and destroys a person to the extent that he does not see anything beautiful in life, so his mind only sees dark thoughts, and does not recall from the past except what is bad, and sees the present as destroyed, there is no hope or consolation for him in anything, and even refuses to hear a word that may encourage him and push him forward, so he gets overwhelmed by frustration and despair to the point that he loses his appetite and his desire for everything (food, work, study, friends, going out, and sometimes even taking a shower) and he thinks that life has come to an end.
One day, a woman contacted me complaining about her son, who quit showering for a while, and she punished him a lot, but it was in vain, and she ended up calling the police, and looking for a more effective punishment.
I told her: “Before looking for a punishment for him, look for a counseling psychologist to sit with him and understand his condition. Your son may have depression, and not showering may be a sign and a message through which he tells you that he has a psychological problem and needs help.”
And indeed it turned out later that he had depression, and he received his treatment.
In order to treat depression, we have to know its causes, and its causes are endless, but I will address the five most common causes

Causes of pathological depression:
1- Separation from reality: The rejection of reality is a very important cause that leads its owner to a pathological depression, such as becuase of a failed marriage, an incurable disease, a life in countries that suffer from wars, or when one has been exposed to rape, and sometimes it leads to committing a crime, but this is caused by an accumulated depression.
2- The issue of feeling guilty: There are people when one of their close relatives dies, they take it on their personal responsibility, as if they were the reason behind this, or they think that they could have done something but they fell short, so they live for a long time with an issue of guilt that leads them to depression.
3- Anticipating the impossible: Expecting the impossible at the level of both dreams and people. As there are people who draw dreams for themselves that are completely separated from their reality, and they do not take any step towards pursuing these dreams, so they fall into depression, like a woman who got married to a man with certain characteristics, but she dreams of a man with other characteristics! She will get into depression.
Anticipating the impossible also includes our expectation of those around us to be perfect, such as a loved one, a friend, or for example, someone joining a church with a preconceived idea that the people in the church will be like angels, so he was shocked, and after multiple shocks he would get into depression, and sometimes it is difficult to treat the types of depression that afflict the schocked person, within the environment that was considered ideal by him.
4- Illusion: Such as the “Drama Queen”, and they are usually sensitive and selfish women at the same time – I mentioned women specifically because women exaggerate more than men – you’d find the Drama Queen explaining her reality exaggeratingly, and imagining results more catastrophic than what really might happen, to the point where she requires to be treated in a more specific and delicate manner, for no one treats her as she desires, she becomes self-involved and receives successive shocks. So she gets into depression and becomes more and more depressed because she is living in an illusion that does not exist except in her imagination, as a result of the drama that she has put herslef into.
5- Loss of hope: It is one of the most powerful weapons of Satan against humanity, because once hope is absent, there is no desire for life, and a person can then surrender himself into destruction in the simplest way possible, and hope gets lost like when the devil puts an idea in your head, for example, that there would be no forgivness for your sins, or when the thought that you’ve blasphemed on the Holy Spirit dominates you.
Once a woman called me whose relatives wanted to take her to a mental hospital, and she had only about half an hour till the ambulance arrives. A week passed without sleep, and the sedatives no longer affected her – of course there is a cure for depression but not in such a situation, as we can treat the causes not the results, for her treatment is usually either in a sanatorium or through medications – and when I asked her why she had reached this condition, she told me that she had lived all her life as an adulteress, and she had not refused adultery not once, so she felt that there was no forgiveness for her because of her many adulteries, I spent half an hour until the ambulance arrived telling her stories from the Holy Bible about adulterers whom the LORD had forgiven, and although she confessed her sins, and although I told her that the LORD is faithful and just to forgive, all that did not work, and she kept repeating that there was no forgiveness for her, until the ambulance arrived and took her.
I would like to point out an important matter. I have previously warned about using the Holy Bible to tell the fortune. When you are depressed, be careful when you ask our LORD about a matter and wait for an answer by opening the Holy Bible randomly.
This method is considered like astrology, and it is possible that Satan will use it to show you certain verses to increase your depression.
I know a girl who told me that she opened the Holy Bible and read Hebrews 12:17 “for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” And she opened it again asking the LORD if He is satisfied with her, and her eyes fell on Revelation 2:21 “And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.” and then Hebrews 6:6 “If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance.” The appearing of these verses for you does not mean that our LORD is giving you this message, but they appear because you’re using the Holy Bible as if for astrological reasons. It is true that the Holy Bible is the living and powerful Word of God for us, and that He actually gives us many things from it, but when we read it, not when we ask in this way, replacing the horoscopes with the Holy Bible, because then we fall into a mistake, and verses taken out of their natural context may appear to you, which leads to huge psychological and spiritual disasters.
3-Harmful depression:
Sometimes the normal depression or the pathological depression develop into harmful depression.
And such a thing happens when the depressed fails to do a certain sin, for example: a person has to revenge on another, he wanted to take vengeance but failed, then his pathological depression would turn into an evil and harmful depression.
Another example: A girl told me that she had been raped, so she spent many years of her life in a fatal dark depression, she contacted some people asking them to rape the sister of her rapist, but her attempts failed, and this failure gave birth to an evil depression, which we call harmful depression.
There are examples of harmful depression in the Holy Bible; in 2 Samuel 13 we find Amnon, who was seized by lust and desire to have a sexual relationship with his sister, so he reached to the point that he got depressed and sick until he ended up raping his sister; and in 1 Kings 21 Ahab was also depressed because he wanted to unlawfully seize a vineyard, and the matter developed until he killed the vineyard’s owner and took his vineyard.
4-Holy depression:
The difference between holy depression and earthly depression, is that holy depression usually has spiritual motives and causes, and the depressed behaves spiritually within the period of his depression, and it is not a long-term one. It is not a way of life, but rather a temporary period, after which the believer comes out of it.
There are those who ask: Can a believer be depressed? Isn’t he supposed to remain always joyful in Christ? And the answer: Yes, he can be depressed, and even Christ himself has grieved and got depressed in Matthew 26:38 “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death.”

Causes of holy depression:
1- Holy zeal: When we hear, for example, about a terrorist act against a church, we grieve and get into this holy depression, although we know that these are martyrs in the Kingdom of Heaven, and that the LORD gave them clothes and He Himself wipes away their tears, but we get into holy depression while being zealous over the people of the LORD and the house of the LORD, as we see in the Holy Bible Nehemiah’s zeal when he heard that Jerusalem was destroyed and its gates got burned. He says in Nehemiah 1:4 “I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.” And he went to the king asking to rebuild Jerusalem, for the depression he had gave him the motives to build and change.
2- When the believer is surrounded by the wrong environment: The believer suffers from a holy depression when his family is different from him in faith, because of his zeal for the LORD, and his fear that the souls of his loved ones would perish, and an example of this in the Holy Bible is the depression of Ezra, when the sins of the people around him increased, he got depressed, fasted, and prayed, and succeeded in purifying the people, and in 2 Corinthians 2:4, when Paul the apsotle heard that someone of the Corinthians’ Church had committed a mortal sin, he got very sad and sent to them saying: “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears.”
3- The persecutions: The third reason for the holy depression comes as a result of persecution. The believer, no matter how high and spiritual he is, is a human in the end. He grieves when his service is destroyed in front of him, and when his work is stolen. We see this matter with the saints in the epistles and Acts of the apostles, although they were happy in the LORD, but they were going through difficult times because of the severity of the persecution and abandonment which they were in. 2 Corinthians 7:5, the apostle Paul says: “For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.” This depression is also a temporary one, but justified, because the believer’s path is very thorny, and the door to his entry into the Kingdom of Heaven is narrow.
4- Asceticism and keeping from earthly matters: The believer is no longer interested in clothes, parties, drinking and smoking, for dancing in a party for two hours may generate temporary happiness for the people of the world, as for the believer, it no longer means anything to him, and collecting money may make people feel safe, unlike the believer who is worried about possessing money, and this asceticism and sadness of the countenance may generate holy depression, and this is what it’s written about in Ecclesiastes 7:3 “for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.”
He no longer cares about the treasures on earth, but starts making treasures for himself in Heaven. He no longer cares about earthly parties, but focuses his attention on the wedding that will take place in Heaven. He no longer cares about what he harvests on earth, but becomes interested in the souls that he harvests for Heaven. And people think that he is depressed, but he is not depressed, but rather ascetic and very satisfied with the LORD.

The cure for depression:
Depression is a real war, and it is one of the fiercest wars that one may be exposed to, and as long as we look at depression as a war, we must equip ourselves with weapons to overcome it, and here, I am talking about natural, pathological, and harmful depression, I am not talking about holy depression, because it is temporary and the believer is protected and knows exactly how to transform depression into victory, joy and change.

The weapons to cure depression:
There are three weapons to cure depression that do not fail:
1- Addressing the causes of depression:
A girl who suffers from chronic depression called me, because her father had been harassing her for years, and as a rule, the first and last treatment for every disease is prayer, but there are things in life that must be done, and the LORD’s hand is with us and helps us to victory. The first solution I offered to the girl was to report to the police so that her father could be punished legally.
Confession is also considered an effective cure for depression. When a person is depressed because of the weight of his sins, he must confess them, kneeling with reverence and tears, and praying loudly until he recovers. Just as he did what he’ve done before the LORD shamelessly, he must confess what he committed while being ashamed. James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another.” For the LORD knows the necessity of confession as a psychological remedy for human beings from the buildup of sins.
2- Changing reality:
This change starts from changing simple things to radical things in life. I will mention something that happened to me in the past, where I lived a very harsh childhood. Whenever my mother, in her simplicity, saw me sad or about to enter into depression, she would say to me: Get up and put lipstick on!! What does it mean to put lipstick on someone who is sad, upset, depressed, and her tears are held back from the intensity of sadness?! But that really is a change.
3- Prayer:
The strongest, first and last weapon is prayer and the Words of our LORD in the Holy Bible. And on our website (fmcworld.net (http://fmcworld.net/)) you’d find in the header from above “Wisdom of the day”, which are encouraging verses aimed at meeting a spiritual need for the reader.
For when we have a specific emotional or spiritual need, we recall what the Bible tells us in John 6:37 “and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” And in 1 Timothy 2:4 “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
These verses give you a new motivation, because your sins, no matter how big they are, are not for your death as long as you breathe, as the door of repentance has not yet been closed, like the thief who repented on the cross and the LORD accepted him at the last moment of his life, how much better you are than the thief! You have sinned but you live your life for Christ.
The LORD says in John 16:22 “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”
Just as there are vaccines that give immunity against diseases, depression and spiritual wars have also vaccines that were given to us by the Holy Bible so that we do not get sick with depression as the people of the world.

The depression vaccine is a mixture of several things, which lead to immunizing ourselves from falling into pathological depression:
1- Hope: “And hope maketh not ashamed”. In Romans 12:12 “Rejoicing in hope”, we read in Acts 14:22 “Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
With hope, hardships and difficulties become a cause of joy, not depression. Persecution increases our confidence that we are on the right path, and if we are insulted, we remember that we will be insulted for the sake of the LORD Jesus Christ. So negative wars turn into a positive thought.
2- Giving thanks: The person who knows thanksgiving, depression does not find a way to him, the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5:20 “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
3- Contentment: This does not mean that we do not have ambition, contentment means that I am confident that my Father will provide me with the best. The verse in Philippians 3:8 is a shield from receiving shocks, satisfaction and contentment. It says: “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”
When we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, then we gain the necessary contentment not to dream away from our reality and fall into depression.
4- Realism: There are many enemies of the Holy Bible who hunt the stories of the men of the LORD God to destroy some of the characters of the Holy Bible, whether he is a prophet, a king, or a man of our LORD`s men, they say that this one commited adultery, and this one murder, so they fight the Holy Bible because it mentioned the sins committed by the prophets, but do you know why God allowed them to be written down? To let the people of the LORD remain realistic, for when we see that the men of the LORD have sinned, this means that if I sin, my sin shall no longer lead me to depression and destruction, as if there is no repentance for me. Rather, I’ll know that the door of repentance is open, and therefore I should take advantage of their mistakes to live reality without idealistic fantasies that leave their believers isolated from their reality, in a schizophrenic state between their religion and their world.
5- Patience: Patience is a vaccine and a very useful weapon against depression, and it usually comes as a result of problems, for problems produce patience, the Holy Bible says in James 1:3 “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” And in Romans 5:3 “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience.” So the believer trained in spiritual wars will not be afraid of them.
Many people reach out to me saying that they don’t want to be fought! To be fought means that you are alive and that you are the son of God and that you are on the right path. Only a dead Christian is the one who is not fought spiritually, because he is basically in the grip of Satan, so who will fight him?
The persecutions and insults that you may be subjected to because of your service or your Christianity, are an indication that you are spiritually alive, and help you to train how to carry patience just like a shield, because according to 2 Chronicles 20: “set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you.” This verse is like a key to most of the problems of our lives that we go through on the spiritual level. We stand and ask the LORD to fight on our behalf, to see His glory in our lives.

In conclusion, we have to look at depression as a devil, so that we can overcome it and not give in to it. When you want to escape from your reality, do not ever choose depression as a solution and isolate yourself from the world, because by doing so you’re allowing the devil to crush you. When you look at depression as a weapon of the devil, you will fight it as a soldier, and you will wear the full uniform of this soldier, which is patience, hope and prayer, and you will be fortified by the faith that you drew from the Holy Bible, and the Holy Spirit will give you strength to fight properly so that you do not fall into the trap of depression and do not reach the pathological type, and then the harmful and evil type, which leads to sins.

Every time you feel sadness that leads to depression, do not give up, rise and shake yourself again, always remember, even if you are guilty, not to focus on the weight of your sin, but focus on our LORD’s great love for you, Isaiah 1:18 “saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” These are the promises of the LORD to us, and we must hold fast to them, as the LORD says in John 6:37 “and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” Also in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.”
I deal with my problems by seeing them as dirt on my clothes, so instead of escaping and burying myself in the dirt stuck to me, I look for a way to get rid of them one by one, and there is a way that I personally trained myself on, but it is a very harsh way, but it is also very useful, which is not only to remove the problems and stuck dirt, rather we also learn to collect these problems as someone who collects stones thrown at him to make stairs and climb over them and use them for a second leap of success, change and victory. We always learn through Christianity with the LORD Jesus Christ not to see the grave, but to see the open cover of the grave.
Wish you all the best.
